They're hyper-intelligent, but also hyper-poud - too proud to wear glasses.
Hence all the crashes.
This also explains why they always go to the US. As they can only speak English - God's own language, why else would the Bible be written in it? - they want to go to an English-speaking country.
And Britain's too small to see on the map.

How do you plan on defending your home? We're hamstrung by strict gun laws, so it's going to have to be relatively close combat. I have one of those tennis racquets you electrocute flies with. Plus a can of wasp spray.

It goes to show how stupid, paranoid and nacissistic humans are, that the common image of aliens - despite the obviously needed superior technology - are as grotesque, feral retards.
And they want to do experiments on us.

I've looked at more detailed reports of this story. It's quite a tale. Apparently the family heard footsteps on their roof and realised one of the 8ft extra terrestrials was up there, walking around. While in their backyard, the other one was (I quote) "Getting into a front loader". Now when I head 'front loader' my first notion was a BRASSIERE and I thought 'oh fuck, here we go, we'll have to learn its pronoun' but after Googling, turns out it's a light construction vehicle.
So there we have it. Johnny Alien has the tech and skill to build craft that can travel unimaginable distances through space and time (and dimensions?) but they can't work out how to land them safely. They also think they can make a clean getaway in a tractor.
